RCCG Sure Mercies

of David Parish Lafia

A BRIEF HISTORY OF RCCG, SURE MERCIES OF DAVID PARISH, LAFIA

RCCG, Sure Mercies of David Parish, Lafia, Nasarawa State, was planted in April 2012 during the annual Easter programme tagged “Let’s go A-fishing” under the dynamic and visionary leadership of the then pastor, Timothy Ayanlola. After the planting of the parish in the same month, the need arose for some workers to be posted to the new parish. One fateful afternoon, Pastor Timothy Ayanlola visited Dn. Niran Balogun at home and asked if he would be willing to shepherd the new parish. Dn. Niran Balogun’s answer was in the affirmative. The following Sunday, announcement was made that God had given them the best hands to work in the new parish. To the greatest surprise of the congregation, the assistant pastor of King’s Parish (where Sure Mercies of David was carved) was announced as the new Pastor in-charge while the family of Bro. Olaleye Oladapo was also mentioned to join Balogun family in piloting the affairs of the church.

The parish began with eight (8) people – the pastor’s family (that comprised the father, mother, their two children, their house-help), Bro. Samuel Oluwaseun Daini and two other brethren from the mother parish who came to witness the first service. Bro. Samuel Daini was asked to come and pay for the rent for the day, but when he saw the need to serve the Lord better in the new parish, he pleaded to stay there.

Weekly services could not start immediately at the venue where the church met for Sunday service due to lack of funds. All thanks to one of our members, Barrister Yahaya Shafa – the current Chairman of the Excellent Men’s Fellowship, who hosted the church for weekly services in their home for more than a year. May the Lord remember him for good and show mercy unto his house; he often refreshed the church and was not tired of hosting the church at his residence.

As at present, God has helped the parish to grow from eight members to an average attendance of one hundred and ten per Sunday service. To God be all the glory!

Sure Mercies of David Parish is blessed with seasoned ministers and functional Departments like Ushering, Sunday School, Choir, Sanitation, Pastor’s Partners (Prayer arm), Evangelism and Follow-up, Children and so on.

The Parish shook Lafia when she organised her first programme tagged “Festival of Gospel Songs” (FESTIGOSS) with the theme: Glorious God. The programme brought many churches and choristers in Lafia (Nasarawa State) together.  It was an impactful event.

Sure Mercies of David Parish has entered into a three-strand covenant with God and God has been faithful to it. The strands of the covenant are: Covenant of Sure Mercies of David, Covenant of life and Covenant of peace.

Till date, the Parish is waxing stronger by God’s grace.  We are what we are by the grace of God. Glory to God forever!
